Responsible… But Without a Plan
For a long time, my husband and I believed we were doing fairly well financially.
We weren’t buried in debt.
We lived below our means.
We were trying to be responsible.
But if I’m being honest—we didn’t really have a plan.
We weren’t working from a clear, intentional budget, and we weren’t fully aligned on where we were headed.
We were doing a lot of things right… but we were still winging it.
When Clarity Changed Everything
That changed when we finally decided to track everything and build real financial structure.
And what we found surprised us.
We weren’t failing.
In fact, we were actually doing pretty well.
We just couldn’t see it clearly before.
That clarity changed everything.
Choosing to Be Intentional
Once we could see the full picture, we started making decisions on purpose.
We set a big goal—to pay off our house—and over the next couple of years, we worked steadily toward it.
For the first time, our finances felt aligned.

And then life surprised us.

Five months after we paid off our house… my job was eliminated.
It was unexpected. And it was hard.
But what surprised us most wasn’t the situation—it was our response.
We didn’t panic.
Because in the years leading up to that moment, we had built something more important than numbers.
We had built structure.
We had created margin.
We had a plan.
Instead of scrambling, we had space to think.
Instead of panic, we had peace.
